About this deal

While William follows the trail of the missing masterpiece, he comes up against suave art collector Miles Faulkner and his brilliant lawyer, Booth Watson QC, who are willing to bend the law to breaking point to stay one step ahead of William. Meanwhile, Miles Faulkner’s wife, Christina, befriends William, but whose side is she really on? The storyline features The Royalty Protection Command, who are entrusted with the safety of the Royal family, and they’re really going to have their work cut out in ‘Next in Line’, to protect one of their royals in particular. Which means for Scotland Yard, the focus is on the elite Royalty Protection Command, and its commanding officer. Entrusted with protecting the most famous family on earth, they quite simply have to be the best. A weak link could spell disaster.

He was a Member of Parliament and deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, and became a life peer in 1992. His political career, having suffered several controversies, ended after a conviction for perverting the course of justice and his subsequent imprisonment. He is married to Mary Archer, a scientist specialising in solar power. Outside politics, he is a novelist, playwright and short story writer. I would have known that was a cover immediately,' said William with a dismissive wave of his hand. 'Because no hitman would have asked me if I was a detective. He would have already known. So, what do you really do when you're not a hitman?'After graduating from university, William begins a career that will define his life: from his early months on the beat under the watchful eye of his first mentor, Constable Fred Yates, to his first high-stakes case as a fledgling detective in Scotland Yard’s arts and antiquities squad. Investigating the theft of a priceless Rembrandt painting from the Fitzmolean Museum, he meets Beth Rainsford, a research assistant at the gallery who he falls hopelessly in love with, even as Beth guards a secret of her own that she’s terrified will come to light. So suspend your disbelief, enjoy the ride. It's an easy read, it's fast paced and there's even a bit of Tower of London history thrown in to keep you interested.

Only someone like Jeffrey Archer . . . could have written a compelling story like this.” ―David Baldacci You know what you're getting with such an established writer. The writing (editing?) is occasionally a bit sloppy, but who cares when the story is full of thrills and fun? Recommended escapism or palate-cleansing. At the end of the audiobook is an excellent interview with Jeffrey Archer. Please don't skip this, it's priceless. After an intense training course into etiquette etc Ross is ready to take charge. Although he has a roving eye on her lady in waiting it is a no, no. This was an interesting story and while the telling is a bit choppy as we jump from case to case, I think readers will enjoy this layered novel and its many different locales. Look for this book in stores October 19th in Canada! In that case,' continued the young man, not looking convinced, 'you'll be able to tell me what the exchange rate was between the dollar and the pound when the currency market opened this morning.'

William tried to remember how much he'd received when he changed a hundred pounds into dollars just before he'd joined the ship the previous evening. But he hesitated for too long. There were a couple of uncomfortable moments for me (but then I got over myself...) when the story wove around characters who were real people and members of the British Royal Family, with one behaving very indiscreetly! Estate agent, car salesman, and funeral director. All of which we were fairly confident wouldn't be followed by never ending questions.' There are two distinct stories here. One involves the discovery that a famous painting hanging in the Fitz is a forgery – while the original is hanging in Miles' New York apartment. The first part of the book involves the attempt to recover the original for the Museum. I would not have laughed aloud if I didn't suspect the author wrote this part with sincere intentions. Which disturbs me greatly.

Narrator George Blagden gave an excellent performance, but then I would expect nothing less from such a distinguished actor. Running parallel to this is the story of a jailed criminal with an interest in fine art, and a private collection that would make many green with envy. Full disclosure - a few chapters in, I did browse goodreads for the blurbs of the previous books, and that was enough for me to get the characters straight in my head.) Overall, I found ‘Traitors Gate’ a great read that was exciting and entertaining. As I finished the novel I wanted to know more about the history of the characters and intend to read the series from the start. Impenetrable. Well protected. Secure. Home to the most valuable jewels on earth. But once a year, when the Queen attends the State Opening of Parliament, the Metropolitan Police must execute the most secret operation in their armory as they transport the Crown Jewels across London. SCOTLAND YARD…

The last Archer I read was Kane and Abel. I have to say the style seems remarkably similar from then to now despite an interval of 40 years. However I suppose when you're as popular as Mr Archer why change a winning formula? After promptly gaining the position of detective constable, William is sent to the Arts and Antiquities squad at Scotland Yard. In addition to investigating various art crimes and frauds in London, the team primarily focuses on apprehending Miles Faulkner, the master criminal behind the thefts and forgery of some of the most valuable art in England. All past attempts to arrest Faulkner have failed spectacularly, as the fraudster is always a step ahead of police forces. Thank you, Sir Peter,' she replied as they shook hands. 'It was kind of you to agree to my unusual request.' His 2nd in command Di Ross Hogan is charged with looking after none other than Princess Diana Aka ‘The People’s Princess’. Ross is not like any Di he is ex military. William put the book he was reading on the table in front of him and took a closer look at the earnest young American who seemed desperate not to be thought of as a child, although he hadn't started shaving. The word 'preppy' immediately came to mind. While on the cruise ship, a suspicious death takes place prompting some detective work to be done by William. He also happens to make the acquaintance of a young American, an aspiring policeman himself, whose family happens to own the cruise ship company they’re sailing with. There’s a definite feeling that we’re going to hear more about this young man in future books in the series. Exited as I was over having been approved for ‘a new Archer’, I must admit I’m a little disappointed now. I’m not in the habit of copying blurb texts in my review, but this time I will. Many thanks to Harper 360/HarperCollins, NetGalley, Edelweiss+ and the author for the opportunity to read Over My Dead Body in advance of its October 19, 2021 publication. In London, the Metropolitan Police have set up a new Unsolved Murders Unit to catch the criminals nobody else can. Four victims. Four cases. All killers poised to strike again. In Geneva, millionaire art collector Miles Faulkner, convicted of forgery and theft was pronounced dead two months ago. So why is his unscrupulous lawyer still representing a dead client? And who is the mysterious man his widow is planning to marry?
